Nil Teak Player of the Week No 4
CONGRATULATIONS TO:
PRINCE M UMMACHAN, Hornbills ( vs Friends X1 20/05/2017, 7 overs 7 for 14)
The Nil Teak Player of the week is Prince M Ummachan, with an outstanding performance with the both bat and ball, to guide Hornbills to a comfortable victory over Friends X1.
Friends X1 won the toss and decided to bat in overcast conditions. There was predicted heavy rain in the afternoon and runs on the board looked the best choice at the outset.
The stage was set for the Prince to open the bowling attack and mesmerise the Friend X1 batting line-up. He utilised the conditions and maintained a line and length that troubled each batsmen that took guard. Felix Richard commented on the performance as, “some outstanding bowling from Prince, his spell was one of the best in UKMCL history”. Prince’s bowling figures of 7 overs 7 wicket for 14 runs tells the story on its own. Friends X1 were limited to 124 with a few brave knocks from Joxin Vincent (23), Anand Sajeevan (23) and Jaimon Jacob (22).
Friend X1 knew that the target was below what they anticipated but realised the conditions were bowler friendly and a small target can sometimes add a different kind of pressure to the team chasing.
Friends X1 opening bowler Lojith Lohithakshan began a wonderful spell and picked up two early wickets. Just as the Friend X1 began to raise the pressure, Felix Richard (50 n.o.) and Prince M Ummachan (43 n.o.) built a match winning partnership to settle the game. Both batsmen used grit to survive the early scare and went on to find the boundaries with ease. Hornbills won by chasing their 125 target with 7 wickets in hand.
Prince’s performance was stand out and match winning, a much deserved award for his all-round efforts. A young player with great prospects, he really was the Prince of Hornbills against Friends X1.
Congratulations.
