NilTeak Player of the Week
CONGRATULATIONS TO:
DILEEP NARAYANAN, Griffins ( vs EMCC 13/05/2017, 6 overs 5 for 14)
This week’s NilTeak Player of the week is Dileep Narayanan, with an outstanding performance with the ball to steer Griffins to match winning position.
The game against EMCC was a low scoring affair, on track that appeared great to bat on from the outset. It was with no surprise that EMCC Captain Raji Gangadharan elected to bat when he won the toss.
The Griffins opening bowlers, in particular Jijin bowled exceptionally well to put EMCC on the back foot. EMCC opener was unfortunate in attaining a head injury when accidently beamer from Jijin found its way through his helmet. Great sportsmanship from all parties to ensure the safety of their players was evident and sets the tone for the spirit of the game displayed by all UKMCL teams.
As EMCC began to build a valuable partnership between Benay and Joshi, Dileep entered the bowling attack and displayed a controlled line and length that troubled the EMCC middle order. His 5 wickets restricted EMCC to only be able to set a target of 104.
A confident Griffins team took advantage of this dominant position and began their innings with numerous boundaries. The game appeared in the bag until EMCC re-grouped and set about a courageous fight back. EMCC grabbed 7 wickets and for a moment had Griffins looking over their shoulder. However Griffins managed to sail home with 3 wickets in hand due to EMCC being at least 50 runs short of a defendable target.
Dileep’s spell was a special one and dictated the outcome of this hard fought match. This game had twist and turns with even blood spilled for their respective teams! A fantastic advert for the way the game should be played and a spectacle for the neutrals.
